Medicare Supplement Plan G
The richest supplement available to anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1 2020. After one annual deductible, your share of Medicare approved costs is paid in full.
Medicare Supplement Plan G
Plan G is the richest Medicare Supplement plan available to anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1 2020. It pays 100 percent of your share of Medicare approved costs, for doctors, labs, scans, surgeries and hospital stays, after you have met the annual Part B deductible. It does not pay for care Medicare does not cover, such as dental, vision, hearing aids, long term care, or prescription drugs.
After that one deductible is met, your net cost for Medicare covered care in the United States is zero. If an MRI leaves you with a 20 percent share, Plan G pays it. If a course of chemotherapy and radiation leaves you with a 20 percent share running into five figures, Plan G pays that too.
Emergency care abroad is handled separately. Plan G, Plan N and Plan F all include foreign travel emergency coverage: 80 percent of emergency care that begins in the first 60 days of a trip, after a yearly foreign travel deductible, up to a lifetime maximum. We confirm those current figures with you.
Who Plan G suits
-
Anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1 2020, since Plan F is closed to you.
-
People who want one predictable annual number and no surprises after it.
-
People who want to keep any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare. There is no network to check with a supplement.
-
People whose premium budget can comfortably carry a supplement premium.
-
People who want the lab work simple: Medicare covered diagnostic laboratory tests, including most blood work, usually cost you nothing at all. The Part B deductible and the 20 percent coinsurance do not apply to them.
A worked example
You go to the doctor complaining about fatigue. Your doctor orders a variety of blood tests, and when you return there is a frown on the doctor's face. He is concerned, and wants an MRI and a CT scan.
When the doctor reviews your scans, he tells you that you have a serious medical condition. You are admitted to the hospital right away, have extensive surgery, spend fourteen days in hospital, and then another sixty days recovering in a skilled nursing facility.
The total billed for all of that runs into the hundreds of thousands. With Medicare Supplement Plan G, what do you pay? The annual Part B deductible. Nothing more for the Medicare covered care in that story, because Plan G pays the rest.
What Plan G does not cover
A supplement supplements Medicare, so it covers what Medicare covers and no more. These stay yours:
-
The annual Part B deductible, which is the one Medicare cost sharing amount Plan G leaves with you.
-
Care Medicare does not cover at all: dental, vision, hearing aids, and long term care.
-
Prescription drugs, which you buy separately with a Part D prescription drug plan.
-
Your monthly Part B premium, and your Plan G premium.
